Yuma Territorial Prison
Yuma, Arizona
1 Prison Hill Rd. Yuma AZ

Picture
Yuma Territorial Prison was constructed in 1876, the first seven prisoners were tasked with the building of their own cells. During its 33 year lifetime the prison held more than 3000 prisoners, including 20 or more women.
Due to nearby construction only about half the prison remains.

The Dark Cell,Yuma Territorial Prison, Set deep within the stone, with only a shaft carved above to admit some feeble light and ventilation. The purpose was punishment in isolation, enclosed in a cage whose base still remains on the floor.
Many ghostly tales are told of this place and entering within the dark confined space can give one a sense of dread. The pictures seen here were taken with a flash. Besides the Ghostly Residents of this Dark Chamber were what appeared to be a small group of Mexican Free Tailed Bats. I would imagine that some of the ghostly tails could be blamed upon these harmless creatures, being disturb and flying about all but invisible within their dark abode.
So if you dare enter and see if you can find a tale of your own.

I apologize for not give out directions to most of my trips, trails change and I do not have the time to keep the site always updated. My hikes also span from the easy to the extreme, a lot of places do not even have trails, as well as extreme conditions. Some sites need to be protected as they are fragile and historically sensitive. So if you decide to hike some of these areas, do your research and know your limits, have the proper provisions .Every year many hikers die  from not understanding these Simple Rules. San Diego County and surrounding areas are diverse in climate and terrain. Remember if you do decide to Hike do your research, carry the essentials and do so at your own risk.  An alternative is to join one of the many hiking groups such as meetup or on facebook ,as well as other social sites. Not only is there safety in numbers but a pooling of knowledge.
